This time I want to show you a buckler.It was made without welding- the center piece was raised from a single 2,5mm thick sheet of steel.The rest was made of 2mm steel.The edge is rolled on the wire.Diameter 29,5 cm.

Made of 1,5 and 1,2 mm steel. Note that the finger joints are riveted steel to steel( only the finger itself is than riveted to the palm section on the thick, strong leather). Ready to sew leather gloves in. They already have an owner, but it is possible to make an order for this type for 250$ / 170 euro + shipping

This time I want to share some pics of the inlayed seax.

Inlayed seax.
Blade lenght: 13 cm
Overall lenght: 24 cm
Blade thickness at the guard: 5,8 mm
Blade width at the guard: 2,3 cm

The seax has silver, brass and copper inlays, brass guard and grenadilla wood handle(whittle tang).
I've made the scabbard from high quality, vegetable tanned leather. It is a special half raw leather, which becomes very hard after wet forming. I dyed it with only one layer of black dye and than rubbed it to show a brown color under black. The purpose was to match the handle wood which also has brown fibers scattered in the dominant black fibers(and of course give it more 'old' look). The leather was than covered in a hot bee wax and oil. The fittings are satin finished brass, decorated with stamped hexagons. The animal motif is embossed.

A quick project: 15th century knife.


Stats:

Handle is made of bog oak. The blade has mirror polish finish.

The pattern on this latest knife is turning out really great. (Random is one of my favorites.) Did you manipulate the folding (alternating longitudinal versus lengthwise folds) in any way to facilitate the look, or did it just turn out this way?

I've twisted the blank before last folding, but not too much. It gave some irregular pattern among standard lines. Discovering the secrets of pattern welding is fascinating! I have still much to learn.

Hello

I've finished my work on the pattern welded knife. Unfortunately, there are some inpurities on the blade where steel didn't weld well. Because of that I decided to sell it for the most fair price - the price which a customer picks himself :) (quite a popular game lately on myArmoury ;) )
