The newest sword in my collection I didn't purchase, but acquired thru a trade last fall: I traded a longbow for a beautiful (and sharp!) katana. The last sword I actually purchased was the Black Prince sword by Arms&Armor in April '04.
This is my latest "sword". Its mostly homemade with a little help from a smith friend of mine. Scabbard is homemade and the blade is spring steel stock removal. That's why it is too narrow, short and heavy. The hilt is based on the info found here: http://www.aiusa.com/medsword/vmuseum/vmx17h.html
The stats:
Length: 84cm
Blade length: 69,5cm
Width of the blade at the base: 3,5cm
Thickness of the blade: 4 mm
Length of crossguard: 15,6cm
Measurements of the pommel (bronze) : 8,8cm x 3,5cm x 2,5cm
COG: ~14,5cm from the crossguard
COP: ~47cm from the crossguard
Weight: ~1,2kg

I'm eagerly awaiting a pair of 15th C Albion Squires and an Albion Next Gen Regent. :D
The Regent will be exactly as is shown on the site - red leather grip and all. Like any good "expectant father" I am preparing a proper place in the home... a nice, cozy, safe, warm, nurturing spot where it will be loved and well cared for, amongst it's brothers and sisters.
Now, the only question is... which one(s) next? :eek: I'm open for suggestions.
I mean... what the heck... it's only money, right? Looking at some of the other collections some of you (or "all y'all" in my neck of the woods) have, I've got some catching up to do!

Ok, Anton... so YOU are the reason I have to wait in line! ;) I think Mike said there were 6 15th C Squires in the queue before mine... but hey, that's cool! It'll be worth the wait. I know the feeling of the anticipation, and it hasn't been a week yet. I would bet, though, that even if I had a collection of 50 of these wonderful pieces, the anxiousness of awaiting that magic white box would still be there just as strongly. (sweet thought... hopefully someday I can know for sure!) To make things worse, I travel a lot for work - my luck, it'll get there later in the day that I leave and sit at the house waiting patiently for me to get back some 2 weeks later. THAT, my friend, will fall under the definition of "cruel and unusual punishment".
Finances be damned, I'm debating a Mercenary, a Clontarf, a Vinland, or one of those new longswords. If only that bonus would come through... might be able to make that "or" and "and" :p !

I'll have to admit, I brielfy entertained the thought... :evil:
I reconsidered, though, after thinking what it might be like for someone to barge in on me to "convince" me that I didn't need mine. Although I am "anxiously expectant" individual, this is *far* from my only... there are others at the ready. I bet I could convince them to leave. I'll bet they'd feel the same.
I'll just wait my turn... further down the list.

Well, I'm only 18 and still in high school, so my funding is rather limited. The last sword I bought was the MRL Rheinfelden rapier. It's by far my favorite sword in my collection.

I just picked up this Kachin style dha from a colleague of mine, Mark Bowditch. It dates to, probably, the mid 19th century. Burma. I understand the blade is differentially hardened (monosteel), and the scabbard and fittings are black-patinated silver.

this is a very interesting blade, after i put my hands on it and felt the balance, i had to have it.
It was forged by Little John McDonald of West Virginia. The blade is a high carbon hand forged blade with a cougar bone handle, and a hand cast bronze guard and pommel.

I like that dha. I'd never heard of them till I saw your posts on swordforum awhile back. They're interesting though. I'd love to know more about their history and how they were used.

As you know, Alina, I'm always available for brain pickin'. Otherwise, it usually takes very little encouragement to have me start waxing pedantic about what little I know about these swords.
Oh, and the article Ian Greaves, Mark and I are working on will be finished soon. It's to be published, but will also be available on the web. Unfortunately, there are many holes in our research, but it's a good start.
The Albion booth at the Atlanta Blade Show, 2005, proved to be quite, well... have a look for yourself.

I got to handle so many pieces there side by side and get a real feel for each piece, then could go back and forth for a comparison... truly awesome!

Very nice pieces Aaron, I'm a Katana bias obsever so I know very little of these types of swords....but they look awsome..Is there an martial art connected to these swords?...........Jeronimo

They are, indeed, very nice. Being a collector of katanas, you are familiar with the associated Asian martial arts. Europe had it's own parallel martial arts. My collection covers many of the forms of swords used throughout Europe from the Viking era through the 16th Century. The study of these weapons and their use has been gaining momentum lately, particularly with the study of period fight manuals and forensic data. A websearch for "Western Martial Arts" will turn up a wealth of information.
