It's not my style either but I still think it's one of the most impressive harnesses I've seen. I've seen photos of Toby Capwell wearing it during a joust at the Royal Armouries, I believe. It looks even more impressive in use.

Yup, it's Toby Capwell's armour all right. I understand he's accepted a position at the Wallace, so he won't be needing to wear it to joust at the RA events anymore... which is pretty sad, really, since he is good at it, and his kit is so impressive!

Too bad I drank my milk and ate my Wheaties as a kid! If I had more coffee and smoked cigarettes in my youth, maybe I'd fit into that armour. Of course, financing it would be a whole different sort of problem in and of itself...

Allons!

Of course that presupposes you'd want to do anything in it that could even possibly put a dent in it either. If I ever had money to buy it I'd just mount it for display only. ;-)

What?? That's like buying a gun you can't shoot... I'd HAVE to wear it! :D

Not me. A harness like that deserves to be used. Turning into a wallhanger would be a crime. Toby used it and it doesn't seem to have suffered too badly.

But maybe NOT joust in it. I would need the much BIGGER HenriVIII sized armour. :p

It always an interesting problem when a " using " quality piece is too valuable and pretty to use but some will use it anyway.

The reasons might vary from ignorance about value, being so rich that it doesn't matter, being an idiot or very rarely, done with honour: Using it as intended and whatever scratches or dings to become part of it's history and not being bothered by the hit to one's pocket book as the resale value plummets. ( Maybe plummets. ;) )

I noticed some scuff marks on the guantlets but I can't decide if there is some damage to the right eye slit/visor or not. If so, it's a pretty impressive testament to the armor's effectiveness but also frightening that the person wearing it took that hard a blow to the eye slit!

You should see the other guy's helmet...

Well, I could add that if I jousted I would want the very best armour I could afford. ;)

And there is something to the idea that it is meant to be used so use it. :D

( Edited: Oh Gordon any story to go with the pic or what is the source. Just curious :?: )
That's Toby Capwell and Arne Koets at Leeds recently. Capwell's lance slid up and off the ecranche that Koets was wearing, hit the salade just so, and "POP!" off went the helmet. As I understand it from reading the posts, Arne was temporarily knocked out, but stayed in the saddle, and only suffered a minor bruise from the encounter. Here are more pictures:

Here is the thread on Armour Archive which discusses both the armour and the inciden, which begins on page 3:

I apologize for the 10 year necro, but I have a question regarding the armor;

What ever happened to it?

There are only a few set of old images depicting it and nothing else.

I read somewhere that Tobias Capwell sold it?

Is the suit lost in private hands then, not to be seen in public?
The new owner is in South Africa, IIRC.
