Hi Jeremy-

Thank you for your donation! The reason the donation hasn't shown up yet is that you sent an e-check and it takes several days to clear. PayPal will notify you when it clears and will also notify myArmoury.com. Names only show up in the list of donors when the funds actually clear.
I just received one of the prizes in the mail today and am pleasantly surprised!

The maker lists these stats:

Overall: 39-1⁄4", Blade: 32" long, 2-1⁄8" wide, 3⁄16" thick, Wt: 3 lbs

It came in at 2.7 pounds, a nice surprise. Another surprise was just how large the sword is! it's often difficult to gleam from the stats, alone, what sort of "presence" a sword makes in person. I made the incorrect assumption this was going to be a more "petite" sword, based probably on the fact that it's ornate. No, this sword is a cleaving mean "knightly" weapon. Very nice, in fact. I like it!

Not sure when I'll be able to take photos. I'm waiting on the Spanish sword still so I might wait.

Alright, back to work. I have a long day ahead of me still.
These are some remarkable, and thoroughly unnecessary, prizes. If I consider the value of myArmoury as-is, a small donation to keep it running doesn't even begin to warrant this kind of extra reward. Kudos to Nathan, the prize-donors, and everyone who contributes to myArmoury's considerable store of content.

Still, a little incentive makes things fun, doesn't it? ;-)

Cheers,
-GLL

I agree that it isn't necessary but it is nice and even if we want to admit it or not a contest or prizes make the Topic thread and contributing more interesting to follow and read and may motivate some donations and is good marketing: Longtime and frequent posters like me get so much out of the site that the prizes themselves are just whipcream on the sundae.

Must admit that the prizes this year are so good that I don't think I would want to do " The Noble Thing " and decline accepting one of them this year should I win. ;) :D I know some people did decline the prizes last year and this was very nice and admirable but then declining a prize fairly won shouldn't be an obligation because it then makes accepting the prize uncomfortable for the ones down the line or the next year who do accept the prize. ( Convoluted sentence but I think you get what I mean. ;) ).
Up to $3300. :) What was last year's total?

The last number I know about was $3500 but only Nathan can tell us the real total as membership fees as well as last minute contributions might have continued increasing the amount a bit ?
... yep the prizes are nice incentives, but the collective knowledge and information contained within this site are far more valuable and rewarding.

... so I'm in again this year x 5.

I must say I am would have thought Albion might have tipped in a donation considering how powerful a vehicle this site is for the indirect promotion of their fine swords? Come to think of it Arms and Armour as well

Cheers

Arms & Armour has donated an item that will be used as a future contest prize. Albion has donated swords in the past (a Clontarf, their First Gen Riding sword, possibly others I can't remember), plus some gift certificates, I believe. They had promised us another sword for a contest prize, but that was quite a while ago and nothing has materialized on that one yet.

We've had readers buy swords and donate them as well as give chunks of money towards them. We've had custom makers offer to make us items and some, like Jody Samson, have come through. And there are other makers I'm probably forgetting.

We've had generosity from many corners of the marketplace. My thanks to all who've donated time, money or items to this site. :)

Well as of the donation I just sent it, it's now at $3,400.00. :)

Just a lazy bump with minimal or rather no motivational speeches. ;) :p :D Gotta be " shortwinded " once in a while to just prove that I can avoid being longwinded !

At $3800 at the moment. :D
Response was so great this time around that I just wanted to announce that all donations that came in for this year's donation drive will enter you into the next contest that is set up like this. That is to say that the donations this year that gave you entry into this contest will serve double-duty and also make you eligible for the next contest of this type!

I have the prize already in-hand and will set up the giveaway before year's end. You guys are gonna like it...

:D
Last night I took photos of the Third Prize for this contest:

The Windlass Steelcrafts Venetian Sword.

All in all, it's a nice sword. It surprised me when it arrived.

Replica's stats:
Overall length: 39.25", Cross-guard width: 6"
Blade length: 32", Blade width: 2.125", Weight: 2.7 pounds

Antique's stats:
Overall length: 40.25", Cross-guard width: 6"
Blade length: 33.375", Blade width: 1.9", Weight: 2.65 pounds

The second prize sword has not yet arrived so I'm not certain I'll have a chance to take photos of it, but I'll try to get some done when it gets here.
Just giving this one a bump as any extra cash just gives Nathan more options to make the site better and could be used for special projects as well as giving a bit of a safety margin should costs go up in an unexpected way.

We are way past the fund raising goal but there are a few days to go and I'm am curious to see how high it can get. ;) :D

Don't forget each $10 donation gives a chance of winning one of the prizes. ;)
I don't post here very often, but I think this forum and website have an important role to play. And well, this incentive certainly is motivating :D - so here is my little bit more than 2 cents ;)

cheers,

Pierre
" BUMP " , 5 days left ....... tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick,
Thankfully, I just received the Spanish sword! It took much longer to get here than expected and I can give out a sigh of relief it made it under the wire! I won't be announcing prizes before they're in hand again despite what promises people give me. Haha.. it's just too much risk! Anyway, all prizes are in hand and waiting to go to new homes. It's doubtful I'll get a chance to do more photos this week so the ones in this topic will have to suffice. Good luck all!

Bumping myself here ....... :p 4 days left and getting close to $4500 WOW !
I just upgraded my membership, I hope that helps.

Cheers!
Up to $4400! :) Can we hit $4500 or $5000? Let's try.

I think it's pretty safe to say we're above last year's total, but Nathan might know for sure.

Oh, I'm fairly certain that we are over last year's total. :D

But then for this year there may be two different totals:

1) The Total direct contributions to the fund drive.
2) The GRAND TOTAL that would include membership upgrades that also count as part of the fund drive but are not seen on the posted " donated so far " total.

The same could be said about last year were there would be a total and a grand total; Only Nathan can tell us if he want to. ;) :D

So today, Saturday and Sunday left: Not sure if the contest included Monday with Midnight as the cut-off ?
