Jeddart/Jedburgh Staff/Axe. Where can I get one? Is anybody producing these commercially? Does anybody want to offer their services making one for me? |
Hi Sean,
I posted a picture of a similar weapon before from czerny's auction house http://www.myArmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.php?t=1403. It is the second picture on the first post. I am not hundred percent certain that it is the same type of weapon but it its very similar. I contacted Craig from A&A for an approximation if a custom order of that piece. His response was that it would cost between $600 and $800. I have not seen any other examples of this kind of weapon being commercially available, but I might have missed them.
Hope this helps,
Alexi

Well the blade on the picture I pointed to is 81cm (31.9in) and it is double edged. So you have a nice sword-like blade mounted on a pole. I think the price is reasonable, especially for a custom order. It is in the price range of a good non-custom sword. The issue is that it probably will not be cast but forged, or most likely made by stock-removal. This time consuming labor makes it expensive. I might commission it in the future, after some some armour has been added to my kit, and my swords are paid off.

I've always liked that one Sean.
How about asking the guy who made it what he would charge?

Oh, I'd say it's a very fair price, just lots more than I can afford. Considering all the hours and skill involved, the armourer probably isn't making very much per hour. This weapon would be a great use for a broken sword...

It's similar to this "viking halberd" I wonder if you could convert one.

There are some pictures of a jeddart or jedwart stave in the new Scottish Rennisaunce armies osprey book. Pretty cool I like the hand guard. I have a broken falchion, I'll have to get someone to weld a piece for the staff on.
