Fellow Birminghamster Shaun Swanner just sent me this link:

And look at the knives!

These folks are doing beautiful, custom 18th. c. edged weapons for what seem to be very reasonable rates. Some of y'all may already know this site, but it's big news to me.

Thanks for posting that Sean. I particularly like the double clam shell cutlass.
The prices do seem pretty reasonable.

That's my favorite, for sure. The only thing I'd add is an engraved blade... "ME FECIT HOUNSLO"
Has anyone on the forum bought a sword from these people? Those hangers look mighty nice.
Yeah, I posted a link to this site on SFI earlier today. Wild that two people discovered this site on the same day, and I didn't even see this thread here.
Those clamshell cutlasses do look nice. They've become one of my favorites sword types after seeing the one Vince Evans made at the Blade Show ( along with yataghans).
Here is a question that may even deserve its own thread.
Who makes decent repros of persian shamshir sabres? I searched a bit and all I found was Vince Evans (cannot afford) and ArmArt (heard bad stuff about completing orders).
Any ither options?
Thanks a bunch
Alexi

from whats been said their are people at 4 years and still waiting...sounds to me like alot of unhappy customers (and to think I was going to order one).
And John Lundemo I know could make a decent historically accurate shamshir and do it at a VERY good price, John's always out to do good reproductions (but for the most part gets fantasy orders)...but if you sent a design I have no doubt he'll be able to do it EXACTLY the way you asked. but I am partial to odin blades, there are many custom smiths capable of such work, but alot have waiting lists well over a year or two.
I've seen some amazing shamshir in mechanical damascus made by a guy in Germany but I'd have to track his details down :)
Those hangers and the clamshell cutlasses look absolutely great!! I would order one right now if I wasn't so deep in current projects. Bah. I want one.
Anyone take the plunge and order from these guys?

I have always liked hangers and cutlasses. they were very personalized and usually made to order. plus they look quite light and practical. very wearable and usable aboard ships for utility purposes.... more of a common mans' sword, unlike the knightly stuff or the elitist renaissance rapiers. they were more supplemental to firearms, and seem more relevant to this modern age.
looks like that guy makes quality stuff that isn't too glittery. very tasteful. it is also refreshing to se someone who doesn't ignore the innovations and styles of this side of the puddle.
ps. it is good to be back after nearly two months at sea with no computer access.
