I have just contacted somebody here in the states who owns one of these. I'd like more info it and some photos of a recently-created one. That photo is quite old, so I'm curious how ones he's made recently look. I'd really like to contact the maker about that and some of the Venetian-styled side swords he does. But I don't have "luxury cash" sitting around to really start buying up stuff now days :)
The proportions on that one and the pattern are a bit odd. Authentic pieces saw very little variety for the Type 1 hilts, and so this one sort of stands out as being just a little odd to me.
Also notice it's made left-handed.

I would love to see a review or pics if you can get any of this sword. When I had Vladimir make my Cup-Hilt, this was one that I was also considering. I wasn't really into Schiavona until I saw all of your fine reproductions and since then I have really grown to love the style and shape of the guards. I particularly like your Patrick Barta and Erik Stevenson ones.

It appears from the photos that he has left the inside of the guards unfinished. Both the Schiavona and the sword from the later set that you posted look this way. Am I correct, or am I seeing things? And is this typical?

The inside of the hilts are not as finished as the exterior, but his stuff is hand forged and
I find it doesn't distract from the beauty in the least.

I know what you mean, Patrick. I wasnt a big fan of cuphilts either until I saw that one. I have been considering it for quite some time. And a hand forged piece like that is a bargain at just $290.

I believe Nathan put a matt finish on it, saying it improved it's appearance.

As Art said, I did put a few hours of time putting a matte finish on the hilt components to give it a bit more finished character to it. The mirror finish paired with the non-perfect surfaces did not mate well. The satin finish concealed much of the uneven surfaces and gave it a better look overall, in my opinion. It takes a lot of detail polishing to get surfaces ready to take a mirror polish and have it look right in the end.
The viking sword is cute, but it's not the Cervenka model I was looking for. Too bad. :\

I'm not much of a rapier guy, much less of the clamshell-hilt variety (I'm a Pappenheimer kind of guy!), but I really like the lines of that set.
Then I saw the shot of the grips...

Oh, sorry, Mr. Robinson. It's been a while since I read that review. I guess he would do a similar grade polish, or at least one not uneven, if such were specified though. I think it looks very nice, great job sir. Good lighting on those pics too...
I find myself infatuated with many things Italian recently.
Does the Cervenka stuff come with an edge? If so, how well does it hold?

Typically Cervenka will put an edge on his blades if so specified when you place your order. Since I’ve never cut with mine, I can’t say how well the edges of his blades hold up and I suppose it will depend on what you intend on cutting. But I can say that the edges of his blades tend to be executed nicely with little or no secondary bevel and his overall work is very solid.
BTW, I’ll second the comments made by Nathan regarding the finish of that particular schiavona and he did a very nice job on the satin finish. It really evens out the overall appearance of the sword. Typically Cervenka’s work seems to be an odd blend of rough and refined qualities and personally I think that adds to the overall appeal of his work.
