I'm down with this, as long as it is kept gritty. We do not need glam cgi in this film. For once.
Give me Conan in a kingly suit of mail with his trademark sword and maybe a few kooky wizards, just like Howard's stories.
Puh-leeze keep it aimed at adults as well, not "all ages". ;)

yes i second it being more adult themed.
could it be, would we see the story of how he won a kingdom by his own hand like the ending scene always showed?
and i know it would be a tall order to ask but bring back the original sword!

YES! This is a must, especially after that disaster of a sword in the last year's, umm, well disaster.
The cynic in me knows damn well this is a bad idea, but man, the optimist thinks this will be awesome. They'd better have a soundtrack to match the first and not some random fantasy music as per the remake. Also important, as mentioned, not to CGI the crap out of it, and to keep fight scenes simple instead of jackrabbit on crack as per every action movie these days. (Yes, the originals didn't exactly have realistic fight scenes, but they were a lot better than spinning round and round "Samurai" style.) Hopefully they'll also keep the somewhat cheesy vibe of the originals too, but I could go for a serious plot if it is good.

And a decent plot with some " Game of Thrones " complexities: Conan as a late middle aged King would only have remained King by acquiring some " minimal smarts " and some elements of the " Borgias " would be interesting.
Conan shouldn't be evil but shouldn't be a " goody two shoes " incapable of doing terrible things if needed to protect his kingdom.
There are actually original stories by R.E. Howard, where Conan is already an older king, feeling the weight of his years, and the scars of his many battles. He is still an awe-inspiring figure, older and wiser, yet still powerful and merciless in battle.
If they choose to go this way in the upcoming movie it's gonna be great. Also, give Ahnuld some credit! He's actually a pretty smart guy, and I really don't think he would re-visit this iconic role of his, if the the script wasn't good. I'm sure they learned something from that disastrous "re-boot" from last year(fingers crossed).

Since Schwarzenegger is 65 it would make sense to go with the grizzled Conan.
As to what sword he should use this time around, he does have one of Albion's Conan swords in his possession. He could use it for show, if not for battle.

Looking forward to this to about the same degree as the upcoming Hobbit. Which is a lot.
I keep my fingers crossed it'l live up to its' potential.

The Albion version i s actually a much better made sword than the old prop.
This could be interesting. Fingers crossed they don't do that damn fountain-of-youth CGI nonsense to make him look 30 years younger.
I was extremely impressed with how well Sly Stallone (66 now) bounced back into the Action role. He isn't the same as he was in his youth, but he is more believable IMO. Hopefully Arnie will do the same, and hopefully they'll get over one-liners and terminator puns. I do not need to hear Conan say "I'll be back", "Get to da choppa!" or "Who is your daddy and what does he do?"

I can imagine such things could be hilarious as outtakes though.
*Points crossbow* "Hasta la vista, baby."
Well lets hope its not a bad as the latest Conan version! and Conan the Destroyer for that matter...in fact with an old Arnie, it would be along the lines of Terry Pratchetts 'Cohen the Barbarian'!..
iirc REH sketched out an idea that Lin Carter wrote up about an older Conan, increasingly anoyed at being stymied by petty aristos, decides to lead an expidition to discover another continent to the west of the Hyborian kingdoms, beyond further west than sunken Atlantis.
I remember it as being a lot better than most of the other pastiches, and could make an awesome basis for a movie imho.

Conan the Librarian. ;) :p
Well, lets hope not !
I did see an early story about this which mentioned The Phoenix on the Sword and The Hour of the Dragon being used as a starting point for the film, which could potentially be very good.
I can't help but think though that without John Milius on board this is almost a non-starter.
I enjoyed Arnie as Conan in 'Barbarian' but Destroyer showed that he could be bloody awful as well. For me it was Milius who made it work, something the later failed attempts would seem to bear out.

Conan the Politician?
He has done a good job though of carving out the kingdom of Kalifornia by hand, with his love Belit...err I mean Maria by his side.

Agreed. Conan the Barbarian was a great film because of: Milius’ direction, Basil Poledouris’ score, Schwarzenegger’s acting (or should that be his lack of acting?) and the swords by Jody Samson and Ron Cobb.
Take away Jon Milius and you get Conan the Destroyer.
Take away Poledouris, Samson and Cobb and you get Red Sonya.
Take away Schwarzenegger and all you are left with is Kull the Conqueror.

absolutely, Milius is responsible for some of the most inspiration and nfluential films hollywood produced during the '60s through to the '80s.
Soo, finally a little bit of info on the upcoming movie:
