King Arthur, not hardly. Loved the Guinevere as Legolas fabrication. This
is the second movie this year that really shouldn't have been allowed to
to use the story it purports to tell as a title, the first/worst being Troy. Maybe
I shouldn't be so critical..........nah! These movies blew!

Well, get ready for another Hollywoodized, period flick this Fall when Collin Farrell takes on the roll of Alexander the Great. The film also stars Val Kilmer, Anthony Hopkins, and Angelina Jolie. The poster looks cool, better then both Arthur and Troy, but I have a feeling it will be just like it recent predecessors. :P

Isn't there a second Alexander movie, somewhere in the works?

You're showing your age Davey, or perhaps I'm showing mine :D
That's been a Hollywood standard since the days of The Crusades (C.B. DeMille) and Spartacus, etc. Although it does seem like they pulled it off better back in the old days. While I did find Aragorns pre-butt kickin' speach in The Return of the King to be pretty good, the rest have seemed pretty contrived, including Braveheart. (A movie that I have a strong dislike for)

Is this Will Smith "I Robot" movie also going to fall into that category?

I have a bit more hope for this one. According to what I've seen on the pre-release trailers, the arms, armor, tactics, even the size of the elephant, appear to be right on. Of course, how this will carry over to the final product, I have no idea.... but so far, so good....
The Colin Farrel version is definitely going to be quite historically accurate in comparison to movies like Troy and King Arthur. What remains to be seen of course is whether the movie is any good. ;)

To answer my own question, it comes out in 2005, directed by Baz Luhrmann, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, and Nicole Kidman as Alexander's mom.

I have some trouble seeing Di Caprio as Alexander.
Luhrmann directed "Moulin Rouge" and a really crappy Miami Vice-style version of "Romeo and Juliet"
Not to mention the TV version which is airing on Discovery channel ... directed by Isaac Florentine of Power Rangers/Special Forces/Navy Seals2 fame ... it's actually a fairly interesting version where the action takes a lot more precedence.

Wow. I wonder what all the sudden interest in Alexander the Great is.
Actually just coincidental timing on the first two. And the tv version is tied into the Colin Farrel film from some sort of marketing standpoint.

Eh, im familiar with the classics as id call um.
well familar with Spartacus, but like you said, the older ones, its wasnt such a cut and paste similarity. thats what I was getting at.
As we all know these battle scenes for the most part are CGI, so i just imagine the movie maker at his computer "directing" the movie by copying and pasting scenes from diff movies......... photoshop here, photoshop there...... and voila!
I saw this a couple of days ago, and I actually quite liked it. I kinda liked Arthur and Keira is the best looking actress in the world. :)
Suprising as I was expecting to hate it. :)

"Alexander the Great" stars WHO? :wtf: *snickers* Leonardo Di-Caprio? *uncontrollable laughter*
God, they make a movie about the greatest leader in history, and they get the preening twerp from Titanic. Perhaps I should cry instead of laugh.
Brian M
P.S. Nope, I'm still laughing!!!
And the other Alexander movie will star that whacked out coke-head Colin Ferrel. I hope the weapons and armor will at least be nice to look at.

Not only do we have Leo DeCaprio in one movie, but Colin Farrel will be in the other one, and Oliver Stone is directing one of the movies. (What, Alexander gets shot from a grassy knoll, and all the solidiers are potheads?)
I'm not holding out a lot of hope for either of these movies. Hopefully the arms and armor will be nice to look at.

Stone's Alexander looks classy and along the lines of Gladiator. Can't go wrong there. ;)
But DiCaprio? Oy. I dunno, he may be able to pull off a good performance, but I doubt he'll have the physical presence to complete the role. Alexander the Great Was a Pretty-boi?

Unfortunately, modern historians may well agree with that conclusion. Homosexuality was pretty common and open in the Greek cities and Macedonia back then. Whether Alexander was also effeminate or as big a wimp as DeCaprio is a different matter.
In between the two extremes, is the other guy playing Alexander ... ex Power Ranger Jason Faunt. A pretty boy who can kick ass. ;)

I haven't been paying much attention to the Arthur movie + discussions thereof, but was recently confronted with this:

Good thing that these images did not stay with me after the movie......I would be having nightmares
He must be a hell of a warrior or something.....three swords.........Come on!!!!!!!! Or is that thing on his belt a dagger?!?!
And how do you like the nearly hand-and-a-half "viking" swords he is pulling out?!?!?!?!?!?
Well it could be worse..............Or can it?
