Nice outfit :)
They paid a lot of attention to detail. They even included a "Bischofsmantel" (bishop's cape, that mail-collar thingy)
However, these oversized codpieces are the reason why I never was too fond of that dress-style *g*
What kind of weapon is this? Looks like a Katzbalger-Messer ;)

Incredible level of authenticity.
Every costume is fully researched.
I guess they become costly too, I wonder how much time you spent looking for the right materials and artisans.

You know, I had never noticed the asymmetrical slashings on the sleeves of puffed-and-slashed coats before... Very interesting, especially the brief bit about the meanings of the different slashing patterns.
Very well done impression. I used to do Landsknecht WAY back when (20+ years ago) when the idea of actually having a real codpiece was quite a novel thing. But we were young and enjoyed pushing the envelope a bit! Here's my impression of a Fähndrich of Nürnburg from 1984... even though the codpiece is hidden by the waffenrock, it's still pretty amusing! Thank the Lord things have improved since then!
Allons!

Gordon! You look like you stepped out of a Dürer woodcut! I read recently that codpieces in this period got so large that the L. used them as purses, storing not just cash but other items as well.
By the way, I finally got to see Ride With the Devil and was pleasantly surprised by it.
You were the one on the horse, right?

I was just about to write the exact same thing!
Awesome costume, Gordon.

I agree, awesome outfit
These codpieces are by far the strangest (western) fashion-trend I've ever seen. I wouldn't have had the balls to wear something like that (pun fully intended :p )
However, that's a clever idea. You will always know when you get robbed :p
Well I guess if everyone is wearing a giant cod piece it's a little less embarrassing: But talk about " raised ...... expectations ". :p

Yeah, right... at least they serve a purpose (or several). Now, the modern neck-tie, however... *frumble grumble*
Wow, Thank you for the complements, Gentlemen! I guess that was, in fact my object when putting together that outfit, to look like a Dürer woodcut. But it's hard for me to escape the Frederick Remington look too, at least as far as hats go ... I was fortunate enough to have Jeff Schröter marching with us at the time, and he was the owner of the Nürnburg flag that I'm carrying... THAT made all the difference, I assure you.
Anyway, I'll have to see if I have any photo's of me in my codpiece days laying around. I guarrantee that when you wear one, no woman over the age of 12 looks you in the eyes as you march past. :D Venetians are soooo much simpler.
Sean; yeah, in Ride with the Devil I'm one of Quantrill's Lieutenants, but I also get to lead the Yankee Cavalry charge against the raiders (I'm the guy in front, in the kepi, hollering orders). Kinda cool to get to shoot at yourself! :wtf:
Cheers!
