new Custom Type XVI
this is really beautiful work Damian. thank you for this.
Damian, that looks incredible!

The facets on the pommel are very crisp and add a layer of detail to an already-intricate shape.

But that cross...

...that cross has to be one of the most majestic, regal-looking hilt fittings I have ever seen!

Very nice. I really like your stuff.
Sir,

I have told other manufacturers that the greatest reaction they can get out of me is disbelief; namely, that "I cannot believe what I'm seeing is real." Good Sir, that is a beautiful sword, and I cannot believe it is real!

Exceptional work!

Welcome to my workshop. Now I am working on a new project - a sword type XVIII. It is a one and a half handed sword. The blade is 92cm long. Now the sword will be polished and sharpened. Next step will be the work with wood - the handle and scabbard.

It was a hard and hot day in my workshop. The process of forgeings a fuller always gives me a lot of emotions :-).

The fittings remind me a lot of my class with Ric Furrer!

Forging and grinding fittings is quite enjoyable, but it's also a LOT of work. It makes you understand why so many makers go for castings when it comes to production swords, though the castings generally aren't as good or as tough as a forged part (just the nature of a casting).

I also have a question, if you don't mind answering: I have a project in the works, and I want to make a simple sword guard. I believe we have A36 mild steel stock at work, and I should be able to get a piece. To form the guard, I would just use stock reduction as I currently lack any forging facilities. Would simple stock reduction produce a suitable guard? Although mild steel is generally not hardenable, I do wonder if you can make it tougher through the heat treating or forging processes. A very broad question, but if you'd not mind offering some advice here, I'd really appreciate it!
