Hi all
just finished a helm chrest inspired on the San Romano battle fresco.
It's formed from one piece 1.5mm brass welded on 4mm brass rondels and a black horn ring.
it's possible to put a feather behind every ridge.
hope you guy's like it
OOoooooo !!..very nice work :D
I can't find the detail in the Uccello's fresco, but the helmet is very nice and has a beautiful finish, there is no doubt.
But, how do you feel to wear it?
Add it more weight?
Does it unbalance?
Regards

hi José
forgot to weight the piece.
you hardly notice the chrest on the helmet.
and it makes for a little higher balance point but this is not a problem, if the helmet has a good fit

Hi Ben
I have used rarely a fifteenth century closed helmet (in my case a simple sallet), and I had to discard it because I choked, and I don't saw anything; besides, was too heavy for me. For these reasons I asked you the questions. Thanks for answering.
About the fresco, I was looking in the wrong wall, even in the wrong city. Because this picture is in London, at the National Gallery, not in Florence. Now I see it: the painted helmet has circular ornaments on the chrest, I don't know what they are; but, in any case, the one you've made is great.

The world of helm crests is something I'm just starting to discover... but your work is very nice!!
in my opinion the ornaments on the chrest and front of the armet are enamelled disc's.
Didn't I see that crest at the Battle of Ammerzoden last week? It looked amazing, especially compared to the rag-tag army of Brabanders around you (I was one of the Knight Hospitallers in the red sucoats in the Gelderland army).
One question though: How sturdy is it? Aren't you afraid someone's going to take a swing at it at some point?

Hi Sander
yes you have seen this helmet at the Battle of Ammerzoden last week.
Butt it wasn't my melon in it.
the chrest is made for Wouter Luth.
it's made in 1.5mm brass so not that flimsy.

Hi Sander,
I asked Ben to make a crest based on the San Romano fresco since i was asked to portray Charles the Bold at castle Ammersoyen and I felt i should make an effort to at least stand out on the field.
I'm very happy with the crest Ben made! In fact i was so happy with it I made sure i wasn't anywere near the lines so nobody would be tempted to take a swing at it ;)
While it's probably not very fragile at 1.5mm but i'd prefer to keep it as it is.
Chances are it will stay in the tent in my armour display and come out for friendly fights and such.
