I forgot to mention ..... the bone grip on Tom's claymore, Ragnarok, was actually shortened !
Tom found that he was destroying his ceilings and decided to take it back a little ;-)
Hot off the Presses ..... just in from maker Eljay Erickson, he writes :
"Hi Thomas,
#1 is to confirm that the basket you bought at the Vegas show is indeed one of mine. Again, note that the join at the wristguard is built up to erase my name. I think this one was signed on the inside as well, so take a good look at the saltire plates and ram's heads; maybe something will be left. Well, the good news is that the dealer knew or suspected modern construction, and this was reflected in the price! Now the only hilts that are unaccounted for are a ribbonhilt and two rapier hilts." - Eljay
Are Vince & I good or what ;-) Mac
* Super job on this one, Eljay .... do you recall anything about where the blade came from ?
Was this a piece from Mr. Perry's collection ?

Mac,
Man, you ARE good. It's almost unfair. A genuine Eljay Erickson basket w/ possibly an antique blade for under One Large? Talk about worth the long plane ride. Congratulations! Vince and I chuckled over how fortunate it would be for you to obtain another Eljay basket. It's a great piece. Speaking as a man smallish in stature who sits behind a desk for a living, this blade is very fast in my hands. I can only imagine what a manly man who works with his hands such as Sergeant Mac can do with this sword.
Mac and Ben, thanks for all the eye candy. Keep 'em coming.
One high coup for Albion was that they had the very first booth when entering the convention hall ....
Talk about a prime spot & exposure for their wares to be seen !
Anyone entering or exiting the hall could not resist stopping by to play with something !
I think Harlan set a record for the most maille hackie-sacks & key chains sold at any show ;-)
I captured these snapshots of Vince checking out a few of Jody's swords, while Harlan & Mike played dueling switchblades :-)

Ben & I had a great time chatting with maker Michael 'Tinker' Pearce, who had some very cool blades on his table !
We got to handle & inspect everything and Ben ended up buying a real nice piece from him ( 3rd photo down )
Nice seeing you again, Mike !

I ran into another antique dealer who had a couple of nice old baskethilts for sale !
Both were priced around $3,250.00, as I recall ! The first one was this Horseman's hilt, c. 1750-ish !
(Neumann's book has a similar piece , # 260.S, page 148.)

The other basket was this one ..... which I figure to be another English military horseman piece, c. 1750-ish, this one with 3/4 basket !
The grip is reversed, with the skins seam on top, so its probably been apart before !
(Neumann's book has a similar piece, # 2.62S, page 149.)
I liked 'em both , Mac

It was great to see you and Ben too, Tom. Fantastic pics, too. Larry at Bladeart has one of my stillettos with a warthog tusk hilt that is being sent to William Loyd for some of his fantastic carving- He is THE MAN when it comes to carving!! Albion had some really nice swords this outing too- they'vee come a LONG way since the 'Sword of Kings' days! Kudos to Mike, Howie and the whole gang.
The 1st item I snatched up is a Barry Dawson prototype 001 which I left on his table for the rest of the day so he could judge if it would be worth making more of them.

The next item I picked up was a 4 bar with alternating twists of 1095/L6 damascus seax made by Nicholas Marcelja of redtrollforge.com for those that live in Wa and around the Vancouver area he does offer classes which plans are now being made to go up and do so!

Awesome Photos. My wife and I stopped by the show for about 4 hours on Friday. It was awesome. Got to see a lot and meet many people. We especially enjoyed meeting Mike and Harlan from Albion (what great guys), they even stored our luggage for us!. The Prince came in today, by the way!
Can't wait to get the rest of the blades.
Look forward to seeing more down at the Atlanta Show.
All the best,
John Burley

Ben,
Welcome to the Barry Dawson 001 Club. Hopefully in the near future you'd also join me in the Lynn Dawson 001 Club.
Nice finds. I'm just happy I was able to get the Oxtail by Vince. Vince mentioned it it the previously email exchange and was looking forward to seeing it, but not optimistic about my chances at getting it. Ya see, I noticed that the gentleman who previously acquired the Goose Quill Sabre was present, and I thought for sure he would've snatched it up since I wasn't coming in until Saturday. Ran into him in the line to get in and talked to him. Turns out, the Oxtail didn't "speak" to him. Well, she sure spoke to me. Then again, Alex Chin's Shamshir also spoke to me and it was a really hard call. At the end, the Oxtail won out, but gotta tell ya, it was close.
Are you back in line for a Viking from Vince?

I was wondering if that was also Alex's or if it was a newly made one.
