I almost didn't make it past the goofy story... corrosion has to be from blood etc. Oh and by the way this sword may be cobbled together from other swords... but the parts are all old honest....
:surprised: :) :D

Any idea why this sword did not sell? Maybe the aged pommel and hilt scared away prospective buyers?

I think the reserve was higher at the last auction than it is this time.
Hi Stephen,
The Scots basket's pommel is from an English dragoon sword, ca. 1750. A sword with this large pommel type can be seen in Moore's "Weapons of the American Revolution and Accoutrements". I think that the blade and guard go together, but why the vendor describes this as a 3/4 basket is a puzzle!

Hi ElJay,
Thanks. You beat me to it. I was just about to email this one to you.
As for the 3/4 basket?? Maybe the seller calls it that because it ain't all the way filled up, you know, cause its got places where a blade could come in & hit your hand.. :wtf:
Blood stained epee bladed wonder blade.
Sheesh.

Neumann's book has this German hanger, 45.S , that has a similar styled pommel as on that baskethilt .....

Pat Tougher , Scottish Sword & Shield, has this big antique Dragoon basket-hilt that sports a pommel in this style too , although it's a nicer one in my opinion !

Looks like the auction ended early due to "an error in the listing." So there seems to be something irregular about this particular sword.
Here's an interesting piece with a nicely curved blade. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem...gory=20272
Thoughts? Oooh, the pesky EFTIS! http://cgi.aol.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...egory=1552
