Hi 2 everybody,
My first post here Happy
Si I stumbled upon a sabre in a bad condition, in my opinion, which is not by all means a proffessional one.
Information about it firsthand is very scarse, only that it is maybe austrian, no period, nothing... No blacksmiths stamp, signature, nothing. It has a serial number on the base of the blade.
I would appreciate any help offered to identify the sabre.
I hooked up some pics of it.

Links with similar sabres are following:
http://therionarms.com/sold/ttoy335.html
http://sbgswordforum.proboards.com/thread/3714

It can't be seen in my pics; Handguard is similar to those on the links, but it is quite simpler. Detail in the rear upper part of the handguard on my sabre lacks in width, and holes in form of stripes, that pics on the links have. Also curvature of the blade differs, mine looks a lot more like a katana blade. I heaven't got the time to measure but the blade is no longer than 60cm, so I am asuming it's an infantry sabre.
Anyway, I would appreciate any advice on where can I gather more info on it, links, anything. Or maybe some of You knows something about this weapon as I would like to restaurate it.

Thanks a bunch,
Goran

Welcome aboard

It is very much a Bavarian 1855 infantry sword. IIRC and I have misplaced a very good reference thread but there were an 1851, 1855, and 1857 series of variation./evolution. Austria was allied with Bavaria, so the form as Austrian bears some fruit. and similarity.

Cheers

GC

Thanks a lot.
I looked on ebay to try and find some... Happy
I think that the one I have is 1855
