Albion Armorers Sempach Sword

Original: 14th Century Europe

This sword represents a knightly sword of the mid-14th century. Classified by Ewart Oakeshott as a Type XVII in his typology, swords of this type appeared during a transitional period in armour development. Due to this increase in body defense, the emphasis in sword design shifted from the cut to the thrust. The Sempach features a narrow blade with an acute cross-section. This results in a stiff and rigid blade, one that is well suited to hard thrusting techniques. In spite of its design, the Sempach still retains a good measure of cutting ability.
