Like the other books in this series this volume is heavily illustrated with high quality color photos. Unfortunately the historical accuracy of the equipment displayed therein is somewhat dubious. As with other books of this kind this one relies heavily on photos of re-enators using re-enactment weapons. Consequently, a close-up photo of a battered and blunt re-enactment weapon does not give the reader a full appreaciation, and perhaps even a misunderstanding, of the historic originals. Things such as padded gambesons, of which there is no concrete evidence for use during this period, are presented with an air of undeniable credibility. This book is worthwhile and enjoyable simply as a way of seeing what other "living historians' are doing, but it is hardly suitable for use as an historic reference.
