This book is featured on Jonathan Hopkins's list: Antique arms and armor by Frederick Wilkinson ![]()
"Antique Arms and Armor" is an average entry into the field of antique arms and armor. In 1972 it was probably a welcome addition to the field, especially for collctors of antiques. The book covers firearms, edged weapons, and armor. For anyone who has already studied any of these subfields, Wilkinson's book will not offer anything new. The exception to this is that there are a few photos (all in black and white) of arms and armour I have not seen printed in other sources. For the experienced collector or arms and armor enthusiast, these photos will not make the purchase worthwhile. Wilkinson's book could be useful to someone who is new to arms and armor. The overview of the three fields (firearms, edged weapons, and armor) is broad and might serve as good foundational knowledge. The chapter on collecting is good, but it shows its age. This book is no longer in print. Used copies can be found at online retailers such as Amazon, and they are relatively inexpensive. Updated Dec 19, 2006 :: 1 of 1 members found this review helpful |
