Easy to follow and full of great information. This is a great tool in getting started in the art of using a long sword. The book gives and excellent step by step progression in a very logical method. It is well written and easy to understand. The pictures are generally good. I have used the book as a guide for almost a year now and have found it a great learning tool. Updated Dec 19, 2005 :: 1 of 1 members found this review helpful Jason Elrod :: Unrated Updated Dec 18, 2005 Aaron Schnatterly :: Either as a stand-alone or (better) as a complimentary resource with Tobler's first work, this serves the practitioner well. It did a lot to help clarify some more obscure points for me, as well as provide good drills and exercises. If you're looking for info/resource material on German Swordsmanship, I'd suggest you strongly consider this one. Updated Dec 14, 2005 Bill Grandy :: The follow up to his original book, Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship, this book is focused more on the "how to" aspect of fighting. It is a fantastic guide in that respect, giving an excellent foundation in how to move, attack and defend, all based on the German tradition. While there have been many books that have taught basic swordplay, very few have dedicated themselves to demonstrating specifically this system, and even fewer have laid it out in such a simple and easy to understand manner. For those who want to learn German longsword but can't find a teacher, I highly recommend picking this book up and finding a buddy to practice. For those of you who have already been studying this noble art, with or without a teacher, I highly recommend it as a training supplement. I have found Tobler's interpretations to be very valid, and in many cases I've reworked my own interpretations because what he presents made more sense to me, both physically and in the sense of following the hisorical treatises. His presentation of the techniques also follows a very logical learning path, with techniques building off of each other in a way that many instructors overlook. I highly, highly recommend this one. C. :: Fighting with the German Longsword is a well researched and well delivered guide to the Knust des Fechtens. My love for the longsword is even greater now that I better understand its use, from basic footwork, drills, to complex techniques, this book has it covered. The best part though is the delivery of information; this book makes sense to me.
Long live the German tradition! Updated Sep 2, 2005 :: 1 of 1 members found this review helpful Patrick Kelly :: This one is an excellent how-to manual on the german lonsword. It is the equivalent of Guy Windsor's book on the Italian school, The Swordsman's Companion, and just as highly recommended.
